Ekalabya Model Residential School

To provide quality education to Scheduled Tribes Boys and Girls from Class VI to XII, seven 'Ekalavya Model Residential Schools' are functioning in the State in the following Districts (i) Bankura (ii) Purulia (iii) Paschim Bardhaman (iv) Jhargram (v) Jalpaiguri (vi) Birbhum (vii) Dakshin Dinajpur with funds from Government of India and the State Government. These are English Medium Schools affiliated to the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education and West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education.Each EMRS has a capacity of 420 students. Present students strength of EMRSs is 2826.

 This is residential and co-educational having sixty students in each class with 30 boys and 30 girls. The students who are admitted to these schools are provided with free tuition, free coaching, books, clothing, free food and lodging etc., Computer education has also been introduced in all the schools from class VI. Students are also being introduced with the workshop of fashion designing, exposure camps and different sports.

With an approval of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Govt, of India, one more EMRS is being set up at Kalimpong for which land has been identified and transferred in the name of the Tribal Development Department. The constructions of boundary wall and approach Road are complete   EMRS, Kalimpong. Preparation of DPR for construction of Building is in progress.

NCC for the EMRS Schools has already been introduced by Tribal Development Department. At present NCC is already started in EMRS, Dakshin Dinajpur and Purulia. The NCC will be started soon in the rest of five EMRSs.
