Ekalavya Model Residential School

To provide quality education to Scheduled Tribes Boys and Girls from Class VI to XII, eight 'Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS)' have been set up in the Districts of (i) Bankura (ii) Purulia (iii) PaschimBardhaman (iv) Jhargram (v) Jalpaiguri (vi) Birbhum (vii) DakshinDinajpurand (viii) Kalimpongwith support from Government of India. These are English Medium Schools affiliated with the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education and West Bengal Council of Higher SecondaryEducation.Each EMRS has a capacity of 480 students. The presentstudent's strength of EMRSs is 3174.

Theseresidential and co-educational institutions haveseventy students in each class with 35 boys and 35 girls. The students admitted to these schools are provided with free tuition, free coaching, books, clothing, free food and lodging etc., Computer education has also been introduced in all the schools from class VI. Students are also being introduced to the workshop on fashion designing, exposure camps and different sports.

NCC for the EMRS Schools has already been introduced by the Tribal Development Department. At present NCC units are functional in EMRS, DakshinDinajpur and Purulia. The NCC will be started soon in the remaining EMRSs.
