The West Bengal Tribes Advisory Rules, 1953 were amended vide Notification No. 820-BCW dated 06.03.2012 to make the council compact and effective. Accordingly Advisory Council has been formed with Hon'ble Chief Minister as Chairperson and fifteen members.
Three Meetings of the Tribes Advisory council were held in Kolkata, Jaldapara, and Uttarkanya and
the actions have been taken as per decisions :
- Banarhat College (Hindi Medium) is completed and handed over to the School Education Department to promote learning in Hindi Medium and text books in Hindi language have been supplied. Presently the College is named after Kartick Oraon
- Old Age Pension is disbursed timely and promptly.
- Inspectors have been earmarked for inspection of Hostels.
- Special drive has been taken up for disposal of all the pending caste certificate cases on camp mode basis. Awareness camps have been organised in seven ST dominated district on Caste Certificates
- Steps have been taken for construction of new Ashram Hostels.
- 23 Hostels have been taken up for the Aloshree project to provide electricity from solar power to be implemented by the power department.
- Copies of Forest Rights Act, 2006 is translated in Santali and Bengali languages and is distributed to the members of Tribes Advisory Council to all stake holders.
- The process of constitution of Forest Rights Committees (FRCs) at village level in Darjeeling and Kalimpong District has been completed. 160 such FRCs has been constituted.
- 45,395 individual Pattas (Area - 21,701.56Acres), under FRA have been distributed. 656 Community Rights including 323 Jaherthan, total area 545.55 acres has been distributed. 64 Community Forest Resource Rights have been granted. The operation is almost complete and no application is pending.
- Special Courts have been designated and Special Public Prosecutors under POA Act, 1989 have been appointed in all the Districts of the State.
- Distribution of 60,000 bi-cycles to the ST girl students of all schools of the state studying in class IX to XII has been taken up.
- Under Kendu Leaf Collectors' Social Security Scheme -2015, 31,323 collectors have been registered. 28 claims under Death, Medical benefits, Maternity etc. have been released and 12 claims are ready for disbursement.
- To fill up backlog vacancies of STs in the reserved categories in State Government Departments was taken up and the concerned Departments have initiated action.
- Action has been taken to distribute to 10 Dhamsa and 10 Madals among the tribal groups on the occasion of Hul Utsav on 30-06-2014. More Dhamsa and Madal will be distributed in the Districts with ST dominated areas.
- Partial Holiday on Hul divas
- A fresh guidelines regarding non-insistence of 50 years of residential certificate or land deed for issuance of ST caste certificates has been issued to all PO-cum-DWOs /DWOs, this will reduce the hardship of forget group in securing caste certificate.
- Decision was taken to supply drinking water in tribal areas, the Principal Secretary, PHE Department has initiated action.
- The Principal Secretary, Tourism Department has been requested for promotion of tourism in the Buxa-Duar, Jayanti, Jaigaon and areas of Dooars with the help of Forest Department.
- Posting of Tribal Development Officer in each district was taken up.
- Construction of Adibasi Bhawan for the Tribal Development Department at New Town, Rajarhat is on the verge of completion.
- A Tri-lingual dictionary with about 24,200 words from Santhali to Bangla and English is published.
