Kurukh language has been listed as an endangered language by UNESCO. The language has been recognized as the official language in the state of West Bengal in the financial year (2016-2017). The Department is taking different activities for promotion of the language through voluntary organization. "Tolong Siki Parichay" (a basic grammar book on Kurukh Language) and "Kurukh Katha Siksha" are being distributed through Kurukh Learning Programmes, being organized with financial assistance of this Department under the guidance of the Cultural Research Institute,under the BCW Department. Forest Rights Act-2006 has also been translated in Kurukh language for its wider publicity in the state.
